Blueberries, You Are Best

Blueberries on your bush
What makes you sweetly so?
Where my other plants are lacking
Your fruit so kindly grows

Although I've filled my garden
With many foods to harvest
I fear my time was wasted
As blueberries are simply best

These pesky grounded garden gourds
What did I even grow them for
Who would ever pick a squash
Over a crisp fresh ripe blue orb?

And sweet potatoes beneath the soil
How I'm digging like a mole
A blueberry bush is tall and proud
And looks me in my eye as it nourishes my soul

Melons are so cumbersome
They take a lot to lift
But your little fruiting bodies
Only need a little pick

Where corn calls for a sickle
And potatoes need a hoe
Blueberries, you are so easy
With just my fingertips

Lettuce is so fickle
and needs a sowing every year
Whereas my blueberry bush's eternal
And will be feeding berries to my kids

My blueberry bush has got it right
How feeble are plants in rows
For each tomato that emerges
4000 blueberries grow

Blueberries you're summer encapsulated
You're tart and fun like me
I grew some other crops, but forget them
Blueberries are all I need

Tea Cow

On my farm I have a tea cow
She's a delicate light brown
When I milk my sweet tea cow
Not milk but tea comes out!

My tea cow does not moo
Nor she ever bellows
When she has to make a sound
She lets out a high pitched whistle!

I sell her tea in swing top bottles
Hot in the winter and iced in the spring
No wrong time to grab some tea
There's a brew for every season!

Tea cow tea is a delicacy
Nothing like bag or diffuser
There's a market for my tea cow tea
It's leaf tea from an udder!

I feed my tea cow sugar cane
And her tea becomes so sweet
I feed my tea cow lemongrass
And her drink is bittery!

When she calls in the morning
She's ready to be tea'd
I grab my teapot as a pail
And my tea cup too!

Each new season brings
A tea calf from my cow
The tea calf suckles on her teet
Her tea is milky now!

At night if I can't sleep
She seeps a sleepy blend
And in the morning when daylight breaks
Her brew is caffeinated!

Grab your tea mug or your glass
I have some tea to share
Try my tea cow's tea cow tea
No other tea compares!

When I Die Throw My Body On The Compost

When I die throw my body on the compost
It doesn't belong here, in a box
I am dead, but you and the animals
Still must feed

So let me help
When I am no longer able to
Sow or water or harvest
Or spread hay grass to the cattle
Or throw seed to the hens
Let me give back as I go back

Bury me in the hot mulch
Make me one with the cool earth
And let me nourish you
One last time

Summer Months

Seeping, pouring out, June
Commanding sun, green life and day
Steady is the heat and the sweltering heart
It’s endless, it’s all encompassing, it’s you.
June.

Forever and only yesterday, July
The lake is an ocean, two kids jump in
And by a protruding tree root
Pull themselves out again
They do this into the late day.
July.

Don’t leave me, August
I hate your goodbyes
It gets cold when you leave
Everything changes and
Life pauses when the stars are out with you.
August.

On Rain and Flowers

I am the clouds
I am the rain

I take the sun
And bring it out again

Yet I'm the seeds the farmer sows
I'm the flowers that rain grows

I am the plow; I am the ox
and the farmer and his prod

I am the horse and I am its rider
I hold the whip and crack it on myself

I fill the silo up with grain
And I eat it down again

I am sweat and I am wine
I am sleep and I am rise

I'm what grows and what destroys
I'm what's there and not anymore
I am give; I am take
I am what you love and I am what you hate

I am the child and I am their mother
I am dirt and I am flower
I am both of all you see
As there is not one without the other

You Star

Like a star among a darkened night
You stand out with your light
Constellations to my eyes
Picturesqueness in real life
You're universe, you're made of wonder
Theres endless you to discover

If beauty could talk, yours would sing
Won't you be my everything?
Be my sun and my day
You're perfect to me in every way
Dear you keep the clouds away

Captured by your brilliance
So long ago; I've loved you since
I have wanted you forever
And now your wish is mine to whisper

Kiss me and make it true
Love, I'd catch the sky for you

You Are My Lighthouse

Like a lighthouse to ship at sea
You are home to me
I search for you when night is blinding
In the dark you're there to guide me

In fog and cloud and pouring rain
I see your light and call your name
Save me when seas are seething
And no ship or plane can reach me

When I was lost you had me found
When Earth was distant you gave me ground
You were noise in a deaf sound

Never to let me die at sea
The light you give is life to me
A lighthouse, bright and true
I put all my faith in you

I Took My Cat To Church

I took my Cat to Church with me
This Sunday in the morn'
So queer was my furry pet
Within Jesus' Church doors!

My Cat attended Church this weekend
A kitten in the pew
When it came time to share our peace
His neighbor got a mew!

I brought my Cat to Church with me
But Cat got no wine to lick
Father refused cat's eucharist
Saying he's not a baptized cat-o-lic!

My Cat came to Church this week
With a confession for the pastor
Translating, I told the priest
He makes messes with his litter!

I brought my Cat to Church with me
My hisser has been a sinner
He caught a finch and must repent
Cause Heaven don't take killers!

I brought my Cat along to Church
So puss could purr a prayer
I wonder what a Cat's to pray for?
Perhaps no balls of hair!

My Cat attended church with me
I asked him to look his best
Cat came out with his black suit on
I told him Tuxedo's overdressed!

I brought my Cat to Church with me
To get my feline blessed
When the priest did see my Cat he sighed
And I said father— Jesus' love is limitless!

Mean

You're so mean.
You need to be more angry.
Yell, yell at me.
Tell me what you think of me

I love and hate you like that.
Pin me and kiss me like you wrote me and broke me
I don't fight with you
but I want you to fight back.

Are You This Night To Light The Fire?

are you, this night, to light the fire?
when shy moonlight does all earth aquire?
to see the bed to which we retire?
is its heat of your desire?

to take the candle or its snuffer?
do its shadows cry or shudder?
were moon or sky made for our slumber?
do you want to see your lover?

do you close your eyes to light?
or the nothing of the night?
who escorts you to dreams tonight?
does seeing nothing count as sight?

you choose flame and like a day
bright chases dark away
beside we sleep, beside a fire
the night is too dark and love light require
